Product Description

5 out of 5 stars Perfect razor   August 23, 2010
B. Pelmenstein (Middle East)
This razor is perfect one for common men.
Unfortunately the maintenance is hard in the regions with very hard water (as in Miidle East). So I recommend for the Futur to supply more detailed instructions about maintenance of this razor with the list of the cleaning tools that can be bought not only in England.

I just purchased this and am going from a Mach 3. I'm simply amazed at how all the 'technology' we have today is so much worse than this. This thing is painless...no pulling, no tugging, no discomfort, & I didn't cut myself even on the first try. The #1 setting cuts as close (if not closer) as the Mach 3 so I'm not sure if I want to go any closer. I have ultra sensitive skin for the record, and can only shave every other day, but now that might change.

Don't be fooled by those who say this is difficult to use. It isn't. Just hold the razor head perpendicular to your face and rock it back until you find the spot where it cuts. Just don't do something stupid like move it sideways or bear down because you certainly don't need too. Sometimes I think people want to feel like they are doing something more important so they create the illusion that it is more difficult than it really is. I don't use a badger hair lathering brush or any other fancy thing...just a sensitive shave gel (in the shower) and you are off to the races. Also, it doesn't take 20 minutes like some say. Maybe a little longer than the Mach 3, but I'm just being careful in the beginning. Oh, and it was a concern of mine that the handle looked slippery, especially because I shave in the shower, but it isn't. I had zero problems holding onto it while it was wet.

The seller shipped it fairly quickly as well.

5 out of 5 stars Unequal German Quality   March 2, 2010
Alf (California)
I got this razor for a friend and he likes it very much; I took a good look at this safety razor and it is very well made; too bad the 1955 Guillete that was my dad's still working great!... That was when "MADE IN THE USA" was something fantastic!
If I ever retire my Guillete safety razor I will be getting a Merkur!

3 out of 5 stars This razor just doesn't cut it   February 15, 2010

I've been using a Merkur long-handled razor for a couple of years and really like it. Hoping that I could make it even better I decided to try this razor.

Pros: Easy to clean while shaving, high quality that you expect from Merkur
Cons: This razor is HEAVY (4.5 oz vs 2 oz), the big gap between the blade and the bottom edge of the head make it easy to clean but I think this is contributes to more cuts and nicks than usual, the razor head is huge and extends way past the left and right sides of the blade (the non-cutting edges) which makes it difficult to trim around any kind of beard or get close to your nose or ears.

I really wanted to like this razor (especially after paying almost $60) but in the end switched back to my regular Merkur. It was awkward to use because of the size and weight and no matter how I adjusted it I wound up with cuts.

5 out of 5 stars The best birthday gift I've ever received!   December 25, 2009

My wife picked out this particular razor for me after I placed a much cheaper brand in my Amazon wish list. I'm glad she spent the extra money on this one instead. It is designed flawlessly, and you can see and feel the quality of it compared to its cheaper counterparts. The shave that I get from using it is perfect, although it takes a few minutes more to shave with this rather than the cartridge type blades I used before. The razor blades are far cheaper than the cartridge type also (about 20 cents each compared to about $2.25 each), but I get a much closer shave with them, so I win both ways. The brand of razor blades will vary in sharpness, so if one brand doesn't work to your satisfaction, you might want to change brands. The razor came with a Merkur blade, which was way too sharp and cut my face to ribbons, but I changed to Derby blades and have been getting perfect shaves ever since. The only flaw I can think of is that the handle is smooth and has the potential to be slippery, although I haven't lost my grip on it yet. If that's the worst thing about it, then I'm sure I'll get many happy years of use from it. I look forward to using it every morning. This razor won't even get passed down to my son; he can buy his own when he gets old enough. This thing will get buried with me after I die!
